If you are having trouble AirPlaying from your iPad, you can use your Mac to AirPlay your iPad.
To do so, connect your iPad to your Mac using your charging cable, follow all prompts on your iPad, open QuickTime Player, select File, then New Movie Recording, then tell QuickTime Player to select your iPad under Camera.
